Root canal

Believe it or not, we think root canal treatment is the MOST comfortable treatment our patients can have. Don’t believe us? We challenge you NOT to fall asleep when we do the treatment.

For years root canal has had a bad name, but with modern methods we can fix badly damaged teeth and rescue them from otherwise certain removal.

We need to do root canal when the interior portion of your tooth becomes infected and pus forms under the tooth. These infections can cause extreme discomfort, sleepless nights and feeling unwell.

If you’ve had any of the following you may need root canal:

• Tooth or gum discomfort or discolouration
• Prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures
• Pus drainage in your mouth
• A tooth abscess
• Swelling or tenderness under your jaw

A root canal fixes this problem by removing the damaged part of the tooth and disinfecting the tooth to remove any infection before sealing it back up. However doing this on an already badly broken tooth usually means they are weak which is why we often recommend crowns after root canals, especially on back teeth.

Most root canals can be accomplished in one visit. However, depending on the extent and complexity of the problem, and if you need a crown, it may take more than one visit to complete.
